Christos Gkekas is a vascular surgeon who stands out for his scientific, professional, and educational background. Since his graduation from the Plovdiv Higher Medical Institute of the Bulgarian Medical School in 1999, he has had a distinguished career.
A year after completing his core medical studies, he returned to Greece to receive the certification of recognition of his degree and then the official license to practice.
In January 2002 he completed his three-month rural training at the General Hospital of Rethymno and a year later he completed his rural service at the Regional Clinic of Nithavris of the Health Care Center of Agia Fotini, Prefecture of Rethymno, Crete. From mid-2003 to 2006 he worked as a resident at the 2nd Surgery Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens “Korgialenio – Benakeio”. He continued his training as a resident of the Vascular Surgery Clinic of this hospital, a clinic with a long tradition and reputation as a whole range of mild to extremely severe vascular surgery cases are treated.
From the beginning of 2011 and for a year he worked as an assistant vascular surgeon at the Vascular Surgery Clinic of the Kapodistrian University of Athens, at the University General Hospital “Attikon”.
Alongside with his work at the Kapodistrian University of Athens, he obtained his PhD on “Expression of Apolipoprotein J in atherosclerotic plaque of patients with carotid artery stenosis”, at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, while until February 2015 he was an associate of the University Vascular Clinic of the Hospital of Athens “Attikon”.
It is worth mentioning that Christos Gkekas is an honorary FEBVS (Fellow of European Board of Vascular Surgery) after successful European exams in the specialty of Vascular Surgery, organized by the European Vascular Surgery Society.
He holds a postgraduate diploma in “Endovascular techniques” (European Society of Vascular Surgery), which he obtained with the grade of “Excellent”, while he is one of the few doctors in Greece who, after examinations in a state committee, has a license to perform ultrasounds of the organs related to the specialty of vascular surgery.
He constantly monitors the developments and all the latest from the field of vascular surgery, participates in dozens of conferences in Greece and abroad while he has published many papers in prestigious foreign journals and is a member of the Hellenic Angiological Society, the Hellenic Society of Vascular Surgery, the Hellenic Society of Surgery and the European Society for Vascular Surgery.
